As the owners of two Pigtails & Crewcuts salons in San Antonio, and full-time realtors in their community, Melissa and Matt Johnson know the importance of exceptional customer service and business management. They knew they wanted to own a respected and successful business and felt Pigtails & Crewcuts would be the perfect avenue to fulfill a need within their community. “When researching businesses for San Antonio, I knew it had to be a family friendly business,” Melissa shares. At the time, their son was young. They’d visited similar concepts in their market and while they always enjoyed their time with the stylists, they found that those locations were poorly managed and unclean. The Johnsons knew they could provide a better experience for the children in San Antonio and their future employees as well.
Texas is home to multiple Pigtails & Crewcuts salons, but the Johnsons were the first to their market. Melissa says that she researched the company and realized they were opening a location in nearby Cedar Park, TX. “My husband and I drove up and spoke with the owner. We loved it! We then contacted the franchise office and started the process.” The Johnsons have been a part of our organization since June of 2010 when they opened their first salon in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of San Antonio. They were able to grow their Pigtails & Crewcuts business to a second location at The Rim in 2017 on a semi-absentee model, while continuing to work full time.
After all the years of being a part of the Pigtails & Crewcuts franchise, Melissa shares that what keeps them invested in this organization is the support they receive from the franchise. “Corporate provides just the amount of support needed to be successful. At first, you lean heavily on this support but, later when you are confident in your abilities as a business owner, the discussions are different and focus more on higher level management.” No matter how long a franchisee is in the Pigtails & Crewcuts system, there is consistent support and collaboration.
