To our franchisees, giving back is simply part of the job. They all run great programs that provide opportunities for their neighbors to be involved through giving. Building positive relationships and giving back to your community are two of Pigtails & Crewcuts’ Core Values. We expect every person in our organization to know these values, understand them, and exhibit them daily. While all of our Core Values are important to us, these three franchisees have gone above and beyond building relationships with the people in their communities through their giving back programs.
Amanda Short, the franchise owner in Bee Cave, TX, has developed local and national programs to give back. At the beginning of the 2022 school year, she partnered with a local non-profit in Austin, TX, twelve: thirty-one, whose mission states, in part: “We believe communities are stronger when they work together for the collective good… By providing tangible opportunities for members of the community to get involved and connected to those around them, we create an environment that fosters meaningful connections and genuine relationships.” Amanda felt the twelve: thirty-one mission and the Pigtails & Crewcuts values perfectly matched. Their donation offered 31 free back-to-school haircuts for families in her community who needed some help during that season. The Bee Cave salon has also participated in the national candy drop-off for Operation Shoebox. “We asked for any left-over Halloween candy with a card for our troops, and in return, participants received $3 off their next haircut. It was great to be able to do something nice for our troops to show thankfulness for their service, give our community the same opportunity, and show our appreciation for the families who helped us give back,” says Amanda. “It really is just about being a part of our community!”
Our multi-unit franchisee in Colorado, Deean Ferrone, shared her recent partnership with a local organization called A Precious Child. “At Pigtails & Crewcuts of Colorado, we pride ourselves on living our core values. One key pillar of leading our organization is giving back to the community. As a company who serves children, it is important for us to support families in our local area,” says Deean. That is why, after touring A Precious Child’s facility and meeting with their dedicated staff, she knew she wanted to give back through such a phenomenal organization. Their mission and vision state that “A Precious Child provides children in need with opportunities and resources to empower them to reach them to achieve their full potential,” and they “envision a future where every child grows to be a secure, self-reliant, contributing member of their community.” In the summer of 2022, the Westminster, CO salon donated 100% of its proceeds from July 6 to A Precious Child. And this year, their donation day aligned with A Precious Child’s annual backpack drive, where they fill backpacks with needed school supplies, and families who need this service can pick up a backpack for free. “This may seem small, but as a former public school teacher, I know firsthand what a huge impact having a new backpack creates for a child,” Deean states.
Angel Putnam, a multi-unit franchisee in North Carolina, loves giving back daily through her business, but her effect on her community is not restricted to her salons. She leverages her two salons in Winston Salem and Greensboro to impact children’s lives in and around the surrounding communities. “We collect donations all year long in our salons for BackPack Beginnings, a local organization whose mission is to ‘deliver child-centric services to feed, comfort and clothe children in need,’” shares Angel. She believes strongly in giving back and has partnered with multiple organizations as a small business owner throughout her years. She recently hosted a winter coat drive for September and donated 127 coats to families and children in need. “I give back every single month! It is an amazing opportunity to be involved in my community, share that passion with our customers, and allow them to participate in giving as well. We could not do this without them and their generosity.”
