One wouldn’t think that the healthcare industry and haircuts have anything in common, but for business owner Dale Moore, he saw them as essential services with a constant need.
Dale has spent the last 30 years working in the healthcare industry, and while he enjoys his career, he was eager to expand his portfolio in business ownership. Alongside his wife, Cindy, the Moores decided franchise ownership would be their next opportunity.
Available within the Hair Care Space
Dale and Cindy desired to own a business that would benefit families, and as devout grandparents, they were eager to invest in a brand that would prioritize the needs of children.
“We were looking at businesses that provide services that people will always need. Similar to health care, hair services is something that people will always look for,” said Dale.

Dale and Cindy began to look into Super Cuts and Great Clips, but they found that a lot of the prime territories were taken. Additionally, the Moores were surprised to find that their daughter was taking their grandson to a Pigtails & Crewcuts, which led them to visit the salon.
Dale and Cindy visited Pigtails & Crewcuts as well as a second competing children’s hair salon before making their final decision. After speaking with the franchise support team available at Pigtails & Crewcuts, he made his decision.

Succeeding Despite Covid-Shutdowns
Their journey with Pigtails & Crewcuts officially began when they signed their franchise agreement in July 2019 and opened their doors in Plano, TX in March 2020.
At the height of their excitement, and only a few short weeks after opening their doors, Dale and Cindy were forced to temporarily close due to COVID-19.
During their closure, Dale and Cindy spent their days working with Pigtails & Crewcuts’ marketing company, Rock Paper Scissors, to drive local brand awareness in preparation for their re-opening.
Becoming Multi-Unit Owners
Once they reopened, the salon quickly gained a stellar reputation with their customers by having attentive stylists, cleanliness, quality haircuts, and a kid-friendly environment. In November 2021, they opened up their second salon in Prosper, TX and continue to have month-over-month growth.
The Moores attribute a lot of their success to their helpful and caring staff they have built up.
In Plano, even with a saturated market with Sharkey’s and Cookie Cutters, they understand that consumers have several options. But Pigtails & Crewcuts continues to stay ahead. Time and time again, their stylists receive raving feedback directly from their clients. Some of their clients have also expressed that they made a switch from a competing brand to Pigtails & Crewcuts.

In addition to hiring great hairstylists, Dale and Cindy also take pride in strong leadership and listening to the concerns of their staff. “We’re very hands-on, stylists have said they’re thankful we’re always around and in the salons. They know how much we care and we’re just as invested as they are,” said Cindy.
They also pride themselves on having a clean salon that is well kept by staff members. “We’re super neat, we’re fresh and have a clean look, we’re not cluttered, and that’s why we have a great reputation across the country,” said Cindy.
