When Sara and Robert Smith relocated to Castle Pines, Colorado, for Sara’s new job in the healthcare industry, they began looking for local businesses that could provide services they needed. There came a point when Sara started looking for a children’s hair salon since her son needed a haircut, but her search came up empty. The husband-wife duo saw a void in the market, and they decided to take action. The Smiths began looking into kid’s salon franchises to bring a sorely needed service to their community.
Connecting Through Support and Shared Values
“With any potential franchisee, you have to do your due diligence,” explained Robert. “When we decided to get into the kids’ haircut salon business, we looked at all the competitors.”
Once the Smiths had narrowed their options down to a couple of kids’ salon franchise opportunities, Robert personally interviewed the CEOs of both businesses. In addition, he interviewed roughly a dozen franchisees from each business.
According to Robert, the biggest thing that stuck out to him when he spoke with the franchisees was that the support from Pigtails & Crewcuts was so different from the competition.
Whether you’re a first-time franchisee or have owned a franchised business before, we provide a strong support system and help you build the strongest children’s hair salon business possible. It’s this level of dedication that has allowed us to create close relationships among our franchisees.
Once Sara and Robert signed their multi-salon franchise agreement, they began the process of looking for the best location for their business.
Finding the Perfect Location
The Smiths initially decided their first location would be in Castle Rock, since there were no existing children’s hair salons in the area.
However, as they continued to consider their options to open multiple Pigtails & Crewcuts franchises, they heard there was commercial space available 13 miles away in Parker. The location had once been a salon but had been vacated recently. Striking while the iron was hot, the Smiths decided to open this location first, while also buying an existing Pigtails & Crewcuts location in the Northfield-Stapleton area, which would bring the total number of Pigtails & Crewcuts locations in Colorado to five salons.
The vacant salon in Parker quickly changed from an abandoned space to an inspiring children’s salon with colorful walls, vehicle chairs, video games, books, and movies galore. Having a son of their own, the Smiths knew exactly what their space needed in order to succeed with their clientele and parents. Pairing the atmosphere with fun-loving, dedicated stylists, Sara and Robert’s location creates a unique, positive experience for the children in Parker.
“As a mom, I know giving kids a special, unique experience is important. That’s what we want for our kids. It’s a child-specific experience,” said Sara.
While at the moment, Sara and Robert have been focused on their salon in Parker, they are still planning on opening their Castle Rock location in the near term. And they have their eyes on the future – The Smiths are looking to open a salon in Western Douglas County as well.
From starting on the hunt for the right place to get their son’s haircut, Sara and Robert have transformed themselves into part of the Pigtails & Crewcuts family. From our brand, leadership, and strong franchisee support, Pigtails & Crewcuts is the perfect way to both fill a community need, as well as create a successful business.
