Jennifer Rizzotti, a longtime hairstylist at Pigtails & Crewcuts – Virginia Beach, was recently interviewed by 13 News Now, for her generosity in cutting and styling her patients hair and helping them cope with hair loss during cancer treatment.
Apart from her career as a stylist at the local kid’s hair salon, Jennifer Rizzotti also serves as a Patient Care Technician in oncology at Sentara Virgnia Beach General Hospital, where she is combining her two passions. In a video shared by 13 News Now, Jennifer shares how this came to be as she was highlighted for the station’s “Making a Mark” series. She works part-time at Pigtails & Crewcuts, and devotes much of her time to her position at the hospital. One of her patients in oncology was worried about losing her hair, and although this is a concern for so many undergoing cancer treatments, Jennifer encouraged her to look at it as a re-birth. She set up a make-shift salon right there in her patient’s room and gave her a haircut. “We’re getting rid of the old, and we’re hopefully bringing out the new hair that’s [going to] come out,” Jennifer shared with 13 News Now. She has since done this for countless others in the oncology unit. Jennifer offers to cut her patients’ hair free of charge to make them feel special during a time filled with mixed emotions. This act of kindness goes a long way, setting her patients up to feel more like themselves in such a difficult time.
