Megan and Trevor Conklin, began their search for a franchise in 2021. They were customers at a Pigtails & Crewcuts, and the Conklins quickly realized that the concept was a needed addition to their community in North Oklahoma City. Being previous customers, Megan and Trevor understood the importance of the Pigtails & Crewcuts experience. They had tried other kids’ salon concepts, but nothing ever compared. “That opened our eyes and made us realize there was a void that we could fill,” Trevor shares. They opened their first salon in June of 2022.
Both Megan and Trevor work full-time jobs, so Pigtails & Crewcuts allows them to be small business owners in addition to their careers. Trevor owns multiple optometry offices and Megan is a financial analyst for a local oil and gas company. “Between our jobs and the boys, we were really busy, so we needed something that would not only fill this void, but something that we could do remotely and still keep our full-time jobs,” says Trevor. The Pigtails & Crewcuts business model offers them the opportunity to run their location on a semi-absentee basis. Owning this franchise also allows them to spend time together, and their hope is that their business will grow with their family. “Our kids are the ages of the Pigtails & Crewcuts main clients, and it’s a wonderful fit for us,” Trevor shares.
Through Pigtails & Crewcuts, the Conklins have had the opportunity to connect with and learn from other business owners. “At our new franchisee training, we not only gained knowledge about Pigtails & Crewcuts, but we also gained friendships with our new peers,” Megan says. “Throughout the process of opening our salons, we all rallied, grew, and encouraged each other.” It has been nice for the Conklins to be a part of this support group. They are going on two years of knowing one another and still speak every week.
Along with working full-time, owning a business, and being a mom of three, Megan serves as a Brand Ambassador for Pigtails & Crewcuts. This group meets monthly to discuss various topics and brainstorm ways to positively impact the system as a whole. Megan shares that she has really loved being a Brand Ambassador. “Our group has been so supportive and creative!” The group pings various ideas off one another and it is an added layer of support. Megan says that the meetings are also a good time to ask other owners for guidance along the way. “At the end of the day, we all want each other and the franchise to succeed.”
